The Great Gatsby, a novel where choices of the past influence the present yet again. Jay Gatsby is a man whose choices in the past have led him to become emotionally insecure. Gatsby born into a poor family, sent off to war knowing the love of his life Daisy could never be his unless he could come up with more money. And that he did, Gatsby became one of the wealthiest people but his past is haunting him. We see how Gatsby's past prevents him from fully living the life he wants to be living. He has all the money one could need but cannot be happy because he believes that money can buy happiness where it cannot. Gatsby believes that with his money now he can change the past, but what happens in the past stays there and not all the money in the world could change it. If Gatsby had been more careful when making decisions in his past he would be living a much happier present life. By watching and reading Gatsby we ourselves must think about how decisions we make now will impact our futures, will our future selves be happy? Or will we end up miserable like Gatsby even with all the money in the world.
