Here I will take a look at how choices from the past effect the future. One choice you decided to make long ago could change what people think of you, even if you are a totally different person. We can clearly see how true this is as we read through The Great Gatsby.

Jay Gatsby, a now extremely successful "businessman" whos past comes to haunt him and are the reason he lives a sad life. Gatsby was born into an extremely poor family and from a young age was determined to work his way up to the top. He met Daisy the love of his life and his poor status caused him to be separated from her then followed by being sent to the war. He had the opportunity to return after the war but he decided not to, to take extra time to increase his wealth. This extra year away from Daisy would be when she would finally fully drift away from him. This decision haunts Gatsby throughout the entire novel as he tries to show off to her, but everything he does is never enough. His pas prevents him from being happy in the present, and he will never be happy as he dies alone. Gatsby is a great man who has a strong sense of hope. Unfortunately his past has destroyed his future and we can learn from this. As we live our day to day lives we must think about the people we impact as well as the effect of small decisions on our lives. While doing this we can learn to think about how our future will look when we make certain decisions. The choice to push someone away from us or to leave home will be a decision that changes how people think of us when we get older. People that we may have loved in the past or still will in the future may be pushed away form us because we made decisions in the past that will regret for the rest of our life. Money cannot fix everything and Gatsby shows us this so next time we make a decision think about who we want to be beside in our future, not just about what we want in the present.
