This blog will be about our short stories unit and how I believe that they were taught to teach us how little decisions have huge impacts. Throughout the unit we found stories which portrayed how a single split-second decisions can change our lives forever, that our future careers could be lost for good.

In Hamlet and A Raisin in the Sun we focus on choices impacts on others, now we will take a look at how split second decisions have impacts. The short story that stood out to me the most in this unit was "The Flash" by Italo Calvino. In this story we can see how every decision including tiny ones impact our lives. The character of this story approaches a crosswalk and decides to question the normal, something that should not harm anyone but changes the way he is looked at. This can be compared to some small decisions in our lives as small as the way we talk to people. Our tone of voice can leave an impression on people of who we are, at an interview wrong tone of voice could cost you a job. Along with this speaking about interviews, a single post on social media could change the way you are looked at for your entire future. Your career path could be blocked all because of one small dumb decision. We can see how instantly the character in The Flash is judged by many people on the street who have no idea who he is, he could have done so much good but will be judged off his one mistake. One small mistake will overrule all the good you have done for the world and this is why I think the impact of choices is an important them in short stories and our course.
